It’s Not Just for Kids: BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK
The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Built with Chocolate Milk.
Ok so remember a while back when I wrote about my newest recovery love, chocolate milk?
Well… the trend has seemed to have caught on.
It turns out that chocolate milk, the drink you used to slug down as a kid, is the Official REFUEL Beverage of Men’s USA Hockey, Women’s USA Swimming, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series (which I swear almost every blogger has ran–except me), IRONMAN U.S. Triathlon Series, Iron Girl, Esprit de She, Life Time Fitness Cycle Club, and the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Whew! I’m tired just typing that.
Anyway, all these organizations have welcomed the BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK campaign with open arms because it works. Since I love me some bullet points, here are several (backed by science) snippets on why low-fat chocolate milk is the bee’s knees when it comes to physical recovery:
- It’s a natural source of high-quality protein to build and repair lean muscle after strenuous exercise.
- It has the right carb-to-protein ratio scientifically shown to refuel exhausted muscles and help return muscles to peak potential.
- It provides fluids and electrolytes–like calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium–to replenish what was lost in a tough workout.
- It has B vitamins that help convert the food you ingest into energy.
- It has five bone-building nutrients: calcium, vitamin D, phosphorous, protein (8 grams in 8 ounces!), and potassium.
But wait, you’re not an IRONMAN?! Neither am I! Don’t fret–chocolate milk will still help you with your goals. In a regular workout and recovery routine, low fat chocolate milk has been shown to help people gain lean muscle and lose fat. Isn’t that what everyone’s looking for?!
Okay, so remember Apolo Ohno, the speedskating legend from past Olympics? Well, he’s joining up with BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK to… wait for it… TACKLE THE 2014 IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE. The race is on Saturday, October 11, in Kona-Kailua, Hawaii. Great spot to pick a race!
Anyway, Apolo is training along with Women’s Health editor Jen Ator over a six-month period. They are training (and recovering) with the guidance of sports dieticians and two elite professional coaches: 8-time IRONMAN World Champion Paula Newby-Fraser and 3-time World Champion Craig “Crowie” Alexander… and chocolate milk.
We can all watch along to see how their training is progressing! HOW, you may ask? There are eight episodes of behind-the-scenes content and some training gems direct from Apolo and Jen.
But wait… there’s more! JOIN ME in a Twitter chat this Thursday night, October 2nd, 2014, at 8:00pm EST. We’ll be focusing on post-workout recovery (one of my favorite topics), and there are prizes! Four lucky participants will each win a BUILT WITH CHOCOLATE MILK gift pack worth $125! Keep your eye out for my Twitter handle, @hayalison, as well as @FitFluential and @GotChocoMilk. We’ll be a tweetin’!
Now go out there and #BuildIt. 😉
