lululemon event + the pornographication of fitness?
Hey all! Happy August! Can you believe the summer is flying by this quickly? Yikes…
I went to a fun event at lululemon athletica in South Miami this past week. They hosted a shopping night for fitness instructors in the community so our Pure Barre team headed over to check out the goods.
They had some healthy snacks and delicious juices from Jugofresh, the local hotspot for healthy foods and juices. What juice did I go with?
WATERMELON MINT. If you have a juicer, MAKE IT NOW. You won’t regret it! My sister suggested also adding basil and vodka and now I’m intrigued…
I snapped up a couple items that were on my need-it-now list. You may have seen this one via Instagram:
There are a million ways to wear it–I have only figured out one so far. Weekend activity!
Here are some of us Pure Barre teachers shopping at the event:
In other news, my sister (the same one who suggested the vodka-basil juice addition) sent me an article that I found kind of interesting. I definitely think it was written to try to go viral, as it’s titled “The Pornographication of Fitness Needs to Stop”… and it’s by Huffington Post, one of the kings of viral articles.
Anyway, it dives into the world of fitness competition, especially the bikini division, and how the sexiness of it all is sending the world the wrong message. Much like the modeling world, it is showing girls a skewed image of fitness, an image that takes drastic dieting, carb-cycling, and much more.
Yet again, young girls are getting the wrong messages and seeing the wrong images.
On that downer note, have a great weekend! Check out the article, I’m sure it’ll spark some sort of conversation in your fitness circles! 🙂
