1.17.14 – friday five

Happy Friday people! I’ve never been so anxious about a Friday before–my Pure Barre instructor final exam is tomorrow. While I want it just over with, I still feel like I need to prepare all day today! I can’t avoid it, I just know I’ll be SO nervous tomorrow. Oh well. Fingers crossed I act like a calm human being in the morning!

Before I get into Friday Five, I wanted to quickly discuss a blog giveaway I recently won. Patty over at Reach Your Peak has a company called Lucky Stars Designs, available on Etsy. She, along with her mom, makes high quality bags that give back–10% of the purchase goes to Manitos, a charity that helps children diagnosed with cancer in Paraguay, a South American country.

I was lucky enough to win Patty’s most recent giveaway, and I got to choose a makeup bag in the fabric of my choice! I normally go for girly pinks and flowers, but this time I got mature and went with a navy and white pattern that has ducks and reeds.

I have to say that I was blown away by the quality of the bag. I started sewing within the past year and it’s tough. I appreciate hand-made things so much more now. This bag is truly durable and well done.

The other bonus to me is that Lucky Stars Designs is a small business located in the USA. Doesn’t get much better than that. Nice job, ladies! Thanks again for an awesome giveaway!

Pain in the Back? Exercise May Help You Learn Not to Feel It via NPR – I always make my pregnant clients do exercises for their back, especially back extensions, in order to strengthen their muscles and avoid the inevitable lower back pain (due to carrying a watermelon in their bodies). This article gives a little more insight into back pain.

5 Tips for Quick Healthy Meals via Run to the Finish – I especially love #2–make a stir-fry! That’s our weeknight staple, just toss in the random things in your fridge.

What Makes a “Good” or “Great” Instructor? via Burpees to Bubbly – I’ve never really thought about this (even though I am an instructor myself) and Monique has some really good points. With my Pure Barre teacher final exam this weekend, being a great instructor is obviously top of mind!

And that’s it, guys! Next time we speak I’ll be done with my Pure Barre exam and hopefully feel confident about it. If not, expect some venting on Monday.

P.S. I just saw a commercial for Panera Power Bowls…I unearthed that secret menu back in July! Now I have to try them…
