a day in the life of a fitness professional: me!

As promised, I’ve broken out a typical day for me, a personal trainer/bootcamp instructor/fitness blogger. This is my usual Wednesday, but do know that literally every day is different.

Since I am a pre- and post-natal personal trainer, the schedule is much different from a regular personal trainer. Pregnant women often have kids to drop off at school, errands to run, morning sickness to deal with, etc., so they typically favor regular morning hours, early afternoon, and some even squeeze in a workout after their workday. Nothing too early, nothing too late–pretty awesome hours. I’ve never had that soon-to-be mom wishing for a 5:30am session!

I also have my upcoming Pure Barre instructor training, so I will soon be adding some Pure Barre classes to my schedule. Maybe I’ll do an updated “day in the life” six months from now…it’ll most likely be different!

6:00am: Wake up and get ready for the day. Quickly throw on makeup, clothes, grab breakfast (usually some form of protein bar), and I’m out the door.

7:00am to 8:00am: Teach bootcamp class.

8:30am to 12:00pm: Clients at the pre-/post-natal personal training studio.

12:30pm to 2:00pm: Arrive home, let the dog out. At this point I either finish up the day’s blog post that I couldn’t get done earlier or I plan ahead for the next day’s post. I schedule some social media postings on HootSuite (a blogger’s lifesaver!). I do some cleaning, peruse my faves on Bloglovin, or possibly paint something…a room, a piece of furniture, a lamp, anything that doesn’t move. Can you tell we’re new homeowners?

2:00pm to 2:30pm: Eat lunch and read the newspaper/scour the internet for blog post ideas. When I’m super organized and have a stocked fridge I make a crazy delicious salad. See above for one of my top hits.

2:30pm to 3:00pm: Walk the dog. He has insane energy so he needs some time in the afternoon each day to get the sillies out.

3:00pm to 4:30pm: The gym process. I gather all the random stuff I need (headphones, armband, water bottle, etc.) and drive over to the gym. I usually do a lot of strength training but I also like to try to alternate with cardio on either the elliptical or the treadmill. I always end with some abs and stretching. You can most likely find me daydreaming while foam rolling my back out. It’s pretty much heaven on earth.

4:30pm to 5:30pm: Get home, shower, feed the dog. Head out for the studio.

6:00pm to 8:00pm: Clients at the studio.

our dinner last night–scallops, brown rice, steamed mixed vegetables

8:30pm: Arrive home to finally see my husband! We play with the dog, cook dinner, and try to fit in an episode of some TV show. It’s usually Modern Family, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Mad Men if it’s in season, How I Met Your Mother (which is horrible this season), Breaking Bad, etc. We also may or may not squeeze in some ice cream. It’s my favorite.

10:30pm: Passed out on the couch. I drag myself upstairs, brush my teeth, and it’s off to dreamland.

And that’s a day in my life! I’m really loving the flexibility of my day to day. I used to be in such a regimented lifestyle, so this feels pretty freeing. I’m also looking forward to getting Pure Barre started up…I got accepted into this weekend’s training!
