holiday weekend recap
We’re back to the grind…Thanksgiving is officially over!
We had a busy weekend filled with running, eating, celebrating a birthday, taking a photo for our Christmas card (which took all of about four minutes), going to various wedding appointments (with the bride-to-be–my sister-in-law!), and working on painting our bedroom.
Here’s a little random photo recap:
Thanksgiving morning started out with a turkey trot for me and my husband (my husband and me?). We attended the Palm Beach Road Runners’ Race 4 the Pies, a four mile race.
Why name it Race 4 the Pies? Because the prize that you’re gunning for is pie. Publix, the best food store in the whole world (others like to call them “grocery stores”, my husband always makes fun of me for saying food store) provides the pies, and they are awarded to the first 900 finishers.
After doing the math, this equated to 900 out of the registered 1,650 runners…can I run fast enough to be in the pie tier? I wondered…
…And I was!
The only option was apple pie, and I was totally fine with that. All I wanted was the sweet satisfaction of winning something. Borderline pathetic, maybe, but I got the pie.
I actually ran a pretty good race, too. It was COLD that morning, cold for Floridians. About low 50’s. That makes for perfect running conditions…except for the crowd.
The first 2 of the 4 miles were packed–I even got clipped by a stroller and a cutthroat mom who didn’t care! Aside from the slow and congested first half, I officially pulled a 34:34.820, which comes out to an 8:38 min/mile pace. The 217th female to cross the finish line, out of 912.
After the emotional high from the pie race wore off, the rest of Thanksgiving was all about the food and drink. Oh, and I took a pre-Thanksgiving dinner nap. I had to prepare for what was ahead…it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Thanksgiving went off without a hitch and then it was birthday celebrations and wedding planning for my sister-in-law. Just one of the highlights of the appointments–CAKE TASTING!
My husband and I didn’t get to do a cake tasting for our wedding, so I was really excited to get to do one with her. These flavors were great…but I can’t give any flavors away, some might be used for the wedding!
As a grand finale to this random weekend recap, my husband was replacing an ancient light fixture on our patio yesterday and found a TON of these things tucked away in the fixture:
Any guess as to what they are? One hint: we live in Florida.
Answer: BABY LIZARD EGGSHELLS.
On that note, have a great week! How was your Thanksgiving?
