healthy fast food options: wendy’s + weekend recap

Hey everyone! Before I get into some details about my fun weekend, I want to talk Wendy’s. Wendy’s restaurants pack some pretty healthy choices and are fairly spread all over the country, so they make road tripping somewhat healthier! I found a PDF version of Wendy’s nutritional information, but for some reason it seems like it mayyy be a little different from their interactive menu information on their main website. Either way, these dishes are optimal when faced with the Wendy’s menu:

Full-Sized Salads

Apple Pecan Chicken Salad: 510 calories (including the pecan and dressing packets), 14 grams of fat, 5 grams of fiber, and 31 grams of protein. A little warning–the pecans add 110 calories and the dressing adds 60 calories. I say if you’re watching your waistline you don’t need all the pecans, and a packet of dressing could be sliced down to half.


Garden Side Salad: 25 calories! 0.2 grams of fat! 45% of your daily requirement of vitamin A! Be careful with the dressing you choose, however…

Small Chili: 210 calories, 6 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber, and 17 grams of protein. Paired with a Garden Side Salad, this makes a super healthy lunch. The large chili ups the calorie count to 310 calories, but it it still a really good choice to incorporate into your meal. Avoid the salty fat bomb of the french fries and satisfy your savory craving with this chili.


What do you think is the healthiest option amidst the burgers, fried chicken strips, and saucy condiments? Kids’ meals! The kids’ meal hamburger is by far the best option with only 240 calories, 10 grams of fat, and 15 grams of protein. Add cheese and 50 calories for a little more decadence.

Hate beef? Go for the Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich with 390 calories, 10 grams of fat, and 32 grams of protein.

My Favorite Menu Item

Chicken Nuggets. I’ve been obsessed basically from the womb, and they always factor in to my fast food experiences. Lucky for me, they aren’t SO terrible of an order. Five little nuggs pack 200 calories, 12 grams of fat, and 12 grams of protein.

I usually like making a meal out of five chicken nuggets and a small chili. Now I know I’ve been making good decisions–that entire meal is 410 calories, 18 grams of fat, and 29 grams of protein!

Now onto the good stuff…the weekend. My sisters flew down from New Jersey and we had a weekend of pool lounging, South Beach, sun, and lizard hunting with the puppy. It’s his new favorite activity. We had a lazy Saturday at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, complete with a cabana, indulgent food, and…rain. My sisters are mommies so any day without crayons, sippy cups, and diapers is a day of serenity and bliss. We had a great time, it went too fast!
