what’s in my gym bag?

Today I’m talking about something lighthearted but also quite important: what’s in my gym bag? I’m joining up with Ari over at The Pace of It All, and we bloggers are all divulging what keeps us sweating and eventually clean again when we go to the gym.

I am a little different when it comes to my “gym bag”. I actually don’t have a gym membership right now–gasp! I like to get my sweat on by running outside or using my home gym equipment, so a gym bag is pretty non-existant. So instead of taking apart my imaginary gym bag, I’ll break down some of my favorite items that are necessities for a good workout:

Supportive, comfortable footwear. I have been a devout follower of Brooks Adrenaline GTS running shoes for years. I got assessed years ago at a running store, and I haven’t strayed on shoes since. What makes this awesomely easy is that once my feet feel uncomfortable when I run, I pretty much know it’s time to reorder my sneaks. I jump online, do a quick Google search for the style and size, and I order from any website that has them in stock (bonus if they’re on sale!). This time I went wild and crazy for the black/hot pink/lime green combo. They came with an extra pair of pink laces, so I may just have to swap out the black ones.

My Lululemon Speed Shorts and Nike hat. I love my Speed Shorts because of how lightweight they are. They have a sweat-wicking waistband and a breathable liner. One of my favorite features is the storage–there are pockets along your hips for keys, gels, credit cards, and I’ve found that my iPhone happens to fit. In addition to those pockets, there is a zipper pouch pocket on the back, so valuables can be safely stowed away. My Nike hat is amazing because it shields from the sun, hides nasty humidity-ridden hair, and is really lightweight. I wear these hats all the time when I teach bootcamp.

Hydration vessel. This Lululemon water bottle is one of my best friends. It’s too heavy to cart around while on a run, but I love it because it isn’t made of plastic. I always felt weird refilling a plastic bottle knowing the potentials of BPA and other scary particles ending up in my body. This glass bottle is thick and dishwasher safe, so wherever I am, it goes with me.

Beauty essentials. Before I head outside I make sure my face is properly covered with SPF 30. I recently received a Birchbox sample of COOLA face sunscreen and I’m loving the scent and consistency. It’s non-greasy and absorbs quickly, so it’s perfect for on-the-go people and layering under makeup. I also love this Serge Normant dry shampoo. This is actually a sample size that I got from my Birchbox, and I’ve been really happy with the sample size. This dry shampoo is a spray, so I recommend blowdrying any sweaty hair post-workout, spraying onto roots that need cleaning, letting the spray dry for a few minutes, and then shaking and combing out the roots. This spray adds insane body AND makes hair grippier for styling. I use it for a more voluminous ponytail or bun.

So that’s it, that’s what’s in my “gym bag”! With the soaring temperatures lately, I’m probably going to join a gym, so maybe I’ll have to do a follow-up post with my new gym bag items. Be sure to head on over to The Pace of it All and check out what all the other bloggers have in their gym bags!
