In this installment of the wedding series, we tackle the mermaid dress.¬†This silhouette is formfitting in the waist and hips, with a flared skirt. You’re not hiding anything in this type of gown so it is important to focus on shaping your hourglass figure. I’ve put together a workout that tightens the hips, thighs, glutes, and waist, the parts of your body that will be proudly displayed while you dance the night away!

Squat + Front Kick

With feet shoulder-width apart, lower into a squat. While returning to standing, kick right leg out in front at hip-level. Repeat squat + front kick with left leg to complete 1 rep. Perform 10+ reps. To add a challenge to this move, hold a medicine ball, dumbbells, or other weight in hands.

Side Lunge

Start with feet together in a standing position. Reach right leg out to the side, lowering into a deep lunge on the right leg while bringing hands towards the ground and keeping back and left leg straight. Push off right leg and return to standing position. Repeat on left leg to complete 1 rep. Perform 10+ reps. To add a challenge to this move, hold dumbbells in either hand.

Rear Kick

Begin on all fours with hands directly under your shoulders. Keeping a straight back, bring your right knee in towards your chest; hold for a few seconds. Then kick right leg up and back, with foot flexed. The action should be as if you were trying to kick the sky. That is 1 rep. Complete 15+ reps on each leg. To add a challenge to this move, wear ankle weights.

Lunge Twist

This move combines lower body conditioning with core conditioning, maximizing the benefits.

Begin with feet together in a standing position. With arms raised to shoulder-height, lunge left leg forward. Lower into lunge.

At the bottom of the lunge, twist torso to the left. Bring torso back to front and step left leg back to standing position. That is 1 rep. Complete 10+ reps on each leg.

Bicycle Crunch

Lay on back with hands behind head, legs stretched out and a few inches off the ground. Bring right leg in towards chest; twist torso so left elbow reaches right knee. Repeat on other side to complete 1 rep. Complete a total of 15+ reps.

This combination of exercises will help tone up your lower half and core. Include this workout with your cardio regimen and your dress should fit snugly and look sexy come the day of your wedding!
