wedding series: fitness-related bachelorette parties
Wedding planning can be demanding. Some brides want to pull their hair out when they find themselves spending hours talking about flower arrangements, wedding transportation, babysitting for the flower girls, and dress alterations, but there is one thing every bride looks forward to with excitement and mild apprehension: the bachelorette party. This is the one night or weekend where she can literally let her hair down and live it up. I know I did when I was getting married! The best part? Most of the time it’s the bridal party making all the arrangements. Score!
But contrary to popular opinion, not all brides want a tequila-shot booze-fest for their bachelorette party. A recent low-key trend has been a weekend in wine country (“tasteful” drinking), but why not try out something more inventive, like a fitness-related bachelorette party? I’ve thought of some fun ideas that could be incorporated into any girls’ weekend (notice that I am not suggesting you cut the booze):
- Work it on the pole. Most of you have heard about this or even tried it, but pole dancing classes can be extremely fun for a group of gal pals. Private bridal party classes can be set up so all inhibitions can be left at the door, allowing for some empowering pole performances. In Miami you can visit SoBe Pole Dance, conveniently located on South Beach. A simple Google search will help you find your local pole dance studio.
- Unleash your inner princess. Are you working with a healthy bridal party? Consider signing everyone up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon! Located at Disney World, this 13.1-mile race focuses on all things girly–princesses! You and your girls can don matching race outfits, complete with crowns and tutu’s, while high-fiving Belle or Snow White. Perhaps you could invite them out for a post-race glass of bubbly (or three)? You might get the real story of how Cinderella lost her glass slipper on that wild night at the ball. Now that would be a bachelorette story to remember…
- Plan a retreat. For those with big budgets looking to treat your best girlfriends, consider going on a fabulous fitness retreat. Three Jewels Retreats has an incredible vacation package to Costa Rica that includes yoga classes, surf lessons, stand up paddle boarding, massages, or just plain hanging out on a spectacular beach. The resort is limited to 14 guests per trip, so you can be guaranteed to have quality time with your ladies. Ah, just picturing late-night girl chats on the beach, so fun…
Have any of you tried something fitness-related at a bachelorette party? Any other ideas than the ones I listed?
