mad lib madness

Flipping through the January 2013 edition of Self magazine, I found a great activity that ended up seriously helping as a roadmap for the upcoming year. The magazine came up with a Mad Libs-style (remember those?!) paragraph that helps you learn from your past successes and apply them to the future. The activity is below:

“In 2012, I finally chucked my   (embarrassing closet lurker)  . I’ll never tell you how long I’d had it. The most delicious thing I ate in 2012 was   (OMG-so-tasty meal)  .

Last year,   (name of your bud/mom/guy)   was my biggest fan. Thanks, boo! Because I rocked   (fab accomplishment)  , in 2013 I will treat myself to   (Kimye-level indulgence)  . Too bad the song   (your personal “Gangnam Style”)   can’t start playing when I walk into a room. The nicest thing someone said to me last year was   (great compliment)  .

I was scared when   (feat of strength/bravery)  . But I did it anyway, and I felt so   (teary-eyed emotion)  .

Next, I want to   (badass activity)  . This year, I will reserve more time for   (feel good priority)   and less time for   (lame waste of time)  . Gotta get myself into gear.”

Below is my own personal Mad Lib–now that it’s out in the blogosphere, I have to commit!

“In 2012, I finally chucked my fear of a career change. I’ll never tell you how long I’d had it. The most delicious thing I ate in 2012 was an elaborate Christmas dinner.

Last year, my husband was my biggest fan. Thanks, boo! Because I rocked the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer certification exam, in 2013 I will treat myself to the AFPA Pre- and Post-Natal Exercise Specialist certification materials and exam. Too bad the song “Heartbreaker” by Mariah Carey can’t start playing when I walk into a room. The nicest thing someone said to me last year was that they admired me for my guts to take a real risk and find the career that truly makes me happy.

I was scared when I quit my job in finance. But I did it anyway, and I felt so relieved and FREE!

Next, I want to focus on learning and growing as a personal trainer, as well as building The Fit Chronicles. This year, I will reserve more time for keeping in touch with family and friends and less time for mindless TV. Gotta get myself into gear.”
